Vibe Coding a Real-time Beach Dashboard
Sydney has some of the best beaches in the world, but the digital experience of checking them remains highly fragmented. Currently, if you want to see live conditions, you have to navigate various council websites and private feeds, each with different interfaces and data quality. There is no single, centralized platform to view the entire coastline at once, which makes it difficult to make an informed decision without opening dozens of tabs. I decided to build a solution that bridges this gap.
I spent a weekend vibe-coding a live dashboard that pulls Sydney's beach cams and real-time temperatures into one centralized platform. I utilized Cursor and VS Code to experiment with AI-assisted tools and come up with a dashboard designed for the ultimate Sydney summer.
A major frustration I’m still debugging is how to encode the streams from the sources so they automatically refresh on the shipped site. Right now the streams are hardcoded, so the beach cams go offline once the session tokens expire. I’m still learning the best way to debug that properly, but as this is my first vibe coding project, I’m focused on the learning process and having fun with the build.
In the next phase of the build, I want to add more information like specific weather conditions, dog-friendliness, beach facilities, and parking info to make it a more comprehensive resource.
Overall, I’m happy with how it turned out in a couple of hours, which is a win for me as this is my very first vibe coding project, as someone with no coding experience.
